Abstract: Triphenylphosphine oxide dissolved in toluene has been used for the extraction of bismuth and antimony from halide media. After stripping from the organic phase, antimony and bismuth have been determined by potassium iodide and thiourea methods respectively. The optimum extraction conditions have been ascertained. Log-log plots indicate the probable extractable species to be MX3·2TPPO. The method has been applied for the determination of the studied metals in spiked sampIes of leaded brass and leaded gunmetal.
