Abstract: A simple method is proposed for the synergistic extraction of uranium(VI) and iron(III) using trifluoroacetylacetone as extractant and pyridine as the synergist. The influence of variables like pH, concentration of trifluoroacetylacetone and pyridine and effect of diluents on the extraction of uranium(VI) and iron(III) have been studied. The method has been applied for the separation and determination of uranium(VI) from lanthanides like neodymium(lll), samarium(III) and cerium(III) and from synthetic mixtures. Iron(lll) has been analysed from pharmaceutical preparations, biological samples and food stuffs.
