Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts are composed of silica, alumina, zeolites and clay. The identification of clay components (generally kaolin or bentonite) present in the FCC catalysts is by XRD technique and is difficult in the presence of zeolite peak interference. The current method indicates the usefulness of the intercalational route to obviate the difficulty in unequivocal identification of the clay matrix.en_US
