Crystalline terbium carbonate has been synthesized using ammonium bicarbonate as a precipitant. The X-ray diffraction data have been indexed and these indicate a monoclinic system with cell parameters, a= 18.745Å, b= 14.244Å, c= 15.329Å and β = 95.263°. The structure is closely related to those of tengerite type rare earth carbonates reported in the literature. The IR data for terbium carbonate show the presence of two non-equivalent carbonate groups.en_US
