| Abstract: | Ru(III) and Rh(I) complexes of some biologically active azomethines with NX (X = S or O) donor system have been described. The products of type Ru(NX)3 and (PPh3)2Rh(NX) were obtained by 1:3 and 1:1 molar reactions of RuCI3.3H2O and (PPh3)3RhCI with monofunctional bidentate. azomethines and have been characterised by elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, conductance measurements, X-ray powder diffraction and spectroscopic techniques such as electronic, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 31P NMR. From the analysis of above studies the donor sites of ligand have been located and geometries of the donor environment around the Ru(III)/Rh(I) acceptor centre proposed. The ligands and their metal complexes have been tested on a number of pathogenic fungi and bacteria in order to assess their growth inhibiting potency at different concentrations. |
