Abstract: Dibenzoyl peroxide undergoes oxidative addition to metallic copper with 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine in acetone solvent and affords the binuclear complex [CU2(C6H5COO)4(C5H11N)2]. This complex has been characterized by elemental analysis. IR and UV- vis spectroscopies. thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction techniques. The X-ray studies show that the structure of the complex is monoclinic, space group, P21/N, with cell parameters, a=10.499(4), b=10.666(6), c=18.109(3)Å, β=92.92(2)o , 1'=2025.2 Å3  Z=2, Dc=1.398g.cm-3, R=0.068 and Rw=0.075. Each copper ion is coordinated by four bridging bidentate benzoate ligands and one 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine to form binuclear molecule.
