Abstract: In this proposed work, the speed of the chopper fed separately excited dc motor can be regulated from below and up to rated speed by using a chopper as a converter. Controller output provides the required gating signal that is used to vary the duty cycle of chopper. Chopper firing circuit receives signal from controller, gives variable voltage to the armature of the motor for achieving desired speed response. For better performance of the DC motor various kind of controller namely Proportional plus Integral (PI), Set point weighting PI, and Fuzzy logic controller are used. Modeling of chopper fed dc motor is done. Complete model of proposed system is simulated using MATLAB (SIMULINK). Finally a comparative study is done between all the controllers.
