Studies on molecular complexation of some local anaesthetics with common acceptors

Abstract

Spectrophotometric measurements have been made on the interaction of local anaesthetics benzocaine, procaine and lignocaine with chloranil, bromanil, iodanil and s-trinitrobenzene. The formation constants of the systems have been measured wherever possible. The thermodynamic parameters of benzocaine system have been also estimated from the studies of equilibrium constants at different temperatures. The interaction is shown to be of charge-transfer type and the complexes are of π-π type.
