The magnitude of the BIP depends upon the concentration and nature of the cations. Theories based on the principles of irreversible thermodynamics as proposed by Tasaka et al.[J memb Sci, 24 (1985) 29] and Toyosbima et al. [J phys Chern, 74 (1970) 2704] have been compared to obtain a relationship which has been used for the evaluation of theoretical values of bi-ionic potentials. The close agreement between the theoretical and the observed values confirms the applicability of the derived relationship to the membrane- electrolyte systems used in these investigations.en_US
