Abstract: The electro reduction of 2-(3-nitro-1-phenylhydrazono) dimedone (3-NO2-1-PHD) has been carried out in buffered 60% (v/v)methanolic solutions in the pH range 2.0-12.0. The compound gives two diffusion-limited irreversible DC polarographic waves/AC peaks. Cyclic voltammetric studies show two cathodic peaks in the forward scan, the first peak correspooding to the reduction of the nitro group and the second to that of the hydrazono group. The results of the present study clearly indicate the existence of the title compound in the hydrazono form, which had been a matter of controversy.
