The reaction of the diphosphazane ligand, PhN{P(OPh)2}2 with cyclopentadienyliron dicarbonyl dimer, [Fe(CO) (CO)2]2 in boiling benzene yields two complexes 1 and 2 (in 75% and 5% yields respectively) which are separated by fractional crystallization. NMR (1H and 31P) and IR spectroscopic data indicate that one of the complexes, i.e, 1 is a simple substitution product of the formula [Fe2(CO)2(CO)2 {m-PhN(P(OPh)2)2}] whereas the other, i.e., 2 is an unusual isomeric complex, containing bridging P(OPh)2 and PhN =P(OPh)2 units that are formed by the cleavage of one of the P - N bonds of the diphosphazane ligand.en_US
