The oxidation of oxalic acid by iodate in aqueous sulphuric acidmedium proceeds with a measurable rate only at 60°C and above. Two paths (1) involving HIO3 and OXH2 and (2) HIO3 and OXH- have been found to be significant at [H+]< 1:0 mol dm-3 and path (1) only at [H+] > 1.0 mol dm-3. A single step two electron transfer mechanism is suggested.en_US
