| Abstract: | A convenient and eco-friendly protocol has been described for the synthesis of 1-[(5-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-methyl]-3-(4-nitro-phenyl)-1,2-dihydro[1,8]naphthyridin-2-ones 5 by the oxidation of the corresponding Nʹ1-arylmethylene-2-[3-(4-nitro-phenyl)-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro[1,8]naphthyridin-1-yl]-ethanohydrazides 4 with iodobenzene diacetate (IBD) in the solid state at RT under grinding conditions. The products are obtained in good yields and excellent purities. The structures of the compounds 2-5 have been established by theirspectral (IR, 1H NMR and MS) and analytic data. The compounds 5 have been evaluated for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. |
