Kinetics of oxidation of a series of benzaldoximes by diperiodatonickelate(IV) in aqueous alkaline medium has been studied in the pH range of 8 to 12 at different temperatures. The reaction shows first order dependence on [DPN]and [substrate], fractional order dependence on [OH-] and inverse fractional order on [periodate]. Added salts and change in dielectric constant of the medium do not affect the rate of reaction. Addition of acrylamide monomer does not initiate polymerisation. The product of oxidation is found to be the corresponding benzaldehyde. The order of reactivity has been found to be p-OCH3 > p-CH3 > H > p-Cl > m-Cl.en_US
