Abstract: The compounds Fe(salen)(OCIO3) and Fe(salophen)(OCIO3) have been prepared by metathesis of AgCIO4 or LiCIO4 with the respective chloro analogues in dry tetrahydrofuran. Monodentate perchlorato coordination is confirmed by infrared spectroscopy. Temperature variation of μeff., EPR, NMR, IR and Mossbauer studies indicate that the complexes are dimers of the type [Fe (schiff base) (OCIO3)]2 where the iron(III) is in the six-coordinated high-spin state. The results are compared with the porphyrin analogue, Fe(TPP)(OCIO3).
