The transport of alkali and alkaline earth cations has been determined through chloroform membrane using glycols and glymes as the carriers. The results indicate that these ionophores are efficient carriers for Na+ and Ca2+ rather than K+ and Mg2+ ions. In most of the cases higher recoveries have been accomplished employing picrate as the counter anion. Glycpls have shown slightly better permeability than glymes. The flexibility of these ligands accounts for poor selectivity.en_US
