| dc.description.abstract | The acid catalysed dissociation of iminodiacetatotetra-ammine cobalt(III) complex has been studied in the [HNO3] range of 0.05-0.40 mol.dm-3 at 1= 0.50 mol. dm-3 (NaNO3), in the temperature range 35-50ᵒC. The reaction exhibits a solvent deuterium-isotope effect k![]() = 2.32 at 40°C.The solvent deuterium isotope effect is consistent with rapid pre-equilibrium protonation followed by rate deter in ring opening, and excludes a mechanism involving concerted attack by [H3O] .The magnitude of the solvent isotope effect, suggests an A-1 type reaction to give a five-coordinate intermediate. | en_US |
