The condensation reaction between ethylacetoacetate and 1,6-diaminohexane has been carried out in the presence and absence of nickel(II) acetate, nickel(II) chloride and zinc(II) acetate. The reaction time and resulting yield from both the processes have been compared. The resultant condensation product, a N2O2 donor ligand, has been characterized by elemental analyses, (C, H, N) and spectral studies like IR, UV/visible, NMR (1H and 13C) and mass spectral studies.en_US
