The mechanism of chemical carcinogenesis induced by different types of compounds such as polycylic aromatics, aromatic amines, tricycloquinazolines, N-nitrosoamines, and halogen compounds, has been discussed. While in the case of polycyclic aromatics, the essence of K,L,M-regions and bay region theories has been elaborated, in the case f other carcinogens, an attempt has been made to identify the essential requirements for carcinogenicity. Since in no case the parent molecules are found to be the ultimate carcinogens, their metabolic transformations to ultimate carcinogens and the role of their electric characteristics in the process have been discussed. The nature of interaction of carcinogenic metabolites with DNA bases has also been discussed.en_US
