In this paper we have reviewed, in brief the second order polarizabilities of π-conjugated systems, viz., olefins having donor acceptor substituents. Results from our laboratory as well as other groups working in this area have been considered, and a general trend seems to be emerging. Trends in future design and modification of polarized olefinic compounds for a wide range of applications have been discussed.en_US
