Abstract: Alternating copolymerization of styrene (Sty) with zinc acryl e (ZnA2), initiated by As2S3-styrene complex in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), has been carried out at 90 ± 0.1°C. The value of order of reaction with respect to initiator (0.25) reveals essential differences from those assumed by classical polymerization equation. The monomer reactivity ratios have been determined by Fineman-Ross (FR) and Kelen-Tudos (KT) methods. The product of r1 (Sty) and r2 (ZnA2) is 0.075 which shows higher alternating tendency. The Q value of Alfrey-Price scheme for metal acrylate is within the range of 1-2. The result indicates that the ZnA2 affects the course of copolymerization.
