Abstract: Silver(I) has been extracted from aqueous phase into chloroform by triphenylphosphine oxide (Ph3PO) at pH 6 using Britton-Robinson buffer (CH3COOH-NaOH). The separation of silver(I) has been carried out from binary mixtures :(a) Ag(I)-M(Il)(M = Mn, Co, Ni, CU, Zn, Cd, Sn, Pb or Mg) and (b) Ag(I)-M(III) (M = AI, Cr, Fe). The extracted species are identified as Ag(Ph3PO)3 (NO3) and Ag(Ph3PO) 3 (NO3) in the concentration ranges of 0.01- 0.04M and 0.045-0.09M, respectively. The effects of different anions (i.e. NO, CH3COO- , SOand Cl-), pH of the solution and dilution of the two phases have been also studied.
