Abstract: The extraction behaviour of praseodymium(III) with 1-(2-pyridylazo )-2-naphthol has been investigated by employing solid-liquid separation after liquid-liquid extraction technique. Traces of praseodymium(III) can be extracted in the binary molten mixture of naphthalene and benzophenone and determined spectrophotometrically. Beer's law is obeyed over the range 0.5-15 μg of Pr(III). The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity are 5.4 x 104 l mol-1cm-1 and 0.0026 μg/cm2 respectively.
