Abstract: A few complexes of silver(I) nitrate and perchlorate with schiff bases derived from isonicotinoylhydrazide and various carbonyl compounds such as 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, (INHSAL), 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde (INHHNAL), 2-hydroxyacetophenone (INHHAP), furfural (INHF), cyclohexanone (INHCYH), benzaldehyde (INHBAL), 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (INHHBAL), 4-methylbenzaldehyde (INHMBAL), 4-methoxybenzaldehyde(INHMOBAL), 4-chlorobenzaldehyde (INHCBAL), 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (INHDMABAL) or 2-acetylfuran (INHAF) have been synthesised and characterized. The complexes are of the type [Ag(L2)X] where L = INHSAL, INHHNAL or INHHAP and [Ag(L)X] where L = INHF, INHCYH, INHBAL, INHHBAL, INHMBAL, INHMOBAL, INHCBAL, INHDMABAL or INHAF (X = NO3] or ClO4 in both the cases). All the complexes are non-electrolytic in nature. The IR spectra of these complexes are indicative of coordination through ring nitrogen irrespective of the other coordination sites. The spectra show the monodentate mode of coordination for the nitrate and perchlorate groups. Thermal studies of the nitrato complexes show them to be stable upto 200ᵒC < above which they start decomposing.
