Abstract: The ligand 5-amino-4-cyanopyrazole H4CN5NH2pz(L) reacts with anhydrous MCl2 yielding complexes of the type ML4Cl2 (M = Cr, Mn, Zn, Cd, Hg).The complexes can also be prepared by the reaction of the ligand with [M(PPh3)2Cl2 (M=Mn, Zn, Cd, Hg). The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses molecular weight data, conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, reflectance and electronic and IR spectral studies. The results are consistent with the octahedral geometry around the metal ions.
