The active sites in the dehydrogenation of isopropyl alcohol on Y-Ba-Cu oxide systems have been identified by IR reflectance technique to be the Cu - O bonds in the chains. The condensation reaction to form isobutyl methyl ketone is shown to proceed through mesityl oxide as identified from IR spectra of surface species.en_US
