Abstract: The influence of benzyltriethylammonium chloride on the crystallisation of zeolite-Y has been studied using sodium aluminosilicate gel at 100°C. The solid phases obtained at different crystallization times have been characterised by XRD, IR, SEM and chemical analysis. Pure zeolite-Y appears after 8 hr in the presence of a template and in its absence only after 18 hr. Samples obtained after 12 hr and 24 hr are also zeolite-Y having improved crystallinity with traces of zeolite-P, Prolonged crystallisation time results in the loss of crystallinity; however the trace amount of zeolite-P remains constant indicating the efficiency of benzyltriethylammonium chloride in selectively nucleating zeolite-Y.
