| Abstract: | Extended Huckel molecular orbital (EHMO) calculations on titania-supported iron catalyst have been performed by choosing oxide matrices of known geometry so as to represent a reduced oxide support and iron clusters, Fen, where n = 5,6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. The stabilization energies calculated for these model systems suggest that Fe8 is the stable one. The suppression in CO chemisorption capacity after high temperature reduction and the increased methanation activity have been rationalized in terms of strong metal support interaction (SMSI). |
