Abstract: Selective and quantitative extraction of zirconium with 0.1 M tri-n-octyl amine in benzene from 0.2 M adipic acid medium at pH 5 is described. The results are compared with those obtained with other dicarboxylic acid media like malonic and succinic acid; also extraction with secondary amine and a quaternary ammonium salt, e.g., Amberlite LA-2 and Adogen-464 has been studied. Effects of different parameters like pH, diluents, dicarboxylic acid and amine concentration, etc., have been studied. The method has been used in the determination of some soil samples obtained from the Singhbhum Copper Belt, India.
