Abstract: Reactions of isatin. furoic acid and picolinic acid have been carried out with titanium tetrachloride. tin tetrachloride. thorium tetrachloride. zirconyl chloride and uranyl nitrate. While 2:3 (metal:ligand) type compounds of isatin have been obtained with Ti(IV) and Srr(IV), zirconium(IV), thorium(IV), and uranium(VI) do not react with the ligand under similar experimental conditions. Furoic acid (FAH) and picolinic acid (PicH) form various chloro furoates and picolinates when reacted with TiCl4, ZrOCl2 and ThCl4, but do not react with SnCl4. The various compounds synthesized have been characterised on the basis of elemental analysis, infrared studies, conductivity and thermogravimetric measurements.
