Freshly precipitated CuS can be solubilized by allowing it to stand in aqueous medium containing MoS. Discrete compounds [(PPh3)3 Cu2MoS4] and [(o-phen)2Cu2MoS4] have been isolated by reaction of the resultant solution with PPh3 and o-phenanthroline which indicate the in situ generation: of [Cu2MoS4] species. The reaction has been carried out to mimic a possible reaction in the rumen and to rationalize the chemical implications of copper-molybdenum antagonisum. A dramatic difference in the antagonistic behaviour of MoS and WS towards copper has been demonstrated.en_US
