Abstract: Magnetic susceptibility measurements have been made on mixtures of phenol with nitrobenzene and cyclohexanone at the concentration of 50% (wt/wt) of each component. Measurements have also been made using thiophenol in place of phenol under similar conditions. Anisole is used to study the effect of methylation. Phenol shows deviation from additivity law but not thiophenol indicating the absence of interaction of -SH group with -NO2 group of nitrobenzene and –CO group of cyclohexanone. Anisole shows no deviation from the additivity rule as expected.
