Synthesis & Reactions of [Os3(CO)10(MeCN)(PEt3)]

Abstract

The cluster[Os₃(CO)₁₀(MeCN)(Pet₃))] (II), obtained by the reaction of [Os₃(CO)₁₁Pet₃)] with Me₃NO/MeCN, reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to give the singly protonated cation [Os₃H(CO)₁₀(MeCN)PEt₃)⁺ (III), isolated in good yield as the hexafluorophosphate salt and [Os₃H(CF₃CO₂)(CO)₁₀(PEt₃)] (IV). Cluster-IV undergoes decarbonylation on refluxing in heptane to give [Os₃H(CF)CO₂)(CO)₉(PEt₃)]. Cluster-II also reacts with triethylphosphine at room temperature to give 1,2-[Os₃)(CO)₁₀, (PEt₃)₂]. The cationic cluster[Os₃H(CO)₁₀(MeCN)(PEt₃)]PF₆ reacts with Net₄CN to give two main isomers of [Os₃H(NCMeCN)(CO)₁₀(PEt₃)]. The compounds have been characterized by IR, NMR and elemental analyses.
