Abstract: Electron impact and field ionization mass spectra of tungsten hexacarbonyl are studied to understand the mechanism of formation of dendrites from this molecule on field anode wires. Dendrites are attributed to W+ and/or WC+ ions formed during electron emission from the field anode wire.
