The kinetics of the title reactions exhibit a pseudo-first order disappearance of Ni(IV) when excess [S] is used; S=substrate. The order in [S] is unity. The rate of reaction increases with increase in [OH-]. Added periodate decreases the rate of the reaction. Change in dielectric constant of the medium or ionic strength does not influence the rate appreciably. Results are interpreted in terms of electron transfer, in rate-determining step from hydrated aliphatic aldehyde to Ni(IV) complex. The products of oxidation are identified as corresponding carboxylic acids.en_US
