Abstract: An ammonia pulse method has been devised for the determination of dispersion of metal ions and complexes on the surface of alumina support based on the ease of formation of metal-ammonia complexes at low temperatures, rapid desorption of physisorbed ammonia at high temperature and its high solubility in water. The method has been tested for copper(II), cobalt(II) ions and Cu(bipyridyl) and chromium(bipyridyl) complexes adsorbed on neutral alumina. The method is found to be fairly accurate (0.5% deviation).
