Abstract: Haloacetates of aluminium of the types Al(OPri)2(OOC - R), Al(OPri)2(OOC - R)2 and Al(OOC - R)3 (where R = CH2Cl, CHCl2, CCl3, CH2Br, CH2I, CF3) have been isolated by the reactions of haloacetic acid with aluminium isopropoxide in different stoichiometric ratios (1:1, 1:2 and 3:1) in anhydrous benzene. These compounds have been characterised on the basis of analytical data, infrared spectra, NMR, TGA and conductivity studies. Infrared and NMR spectra indicate the presence of dimeric and bidentate haloacetate moiety. The conductivity measurements in DMF show that these compounds behave as poor electrolytes.
