Stability and flow behaviour of concentrated barium sulphate suspension (BSS) was studied in the presence of sodium carboxy methyl cellulose (NaCMC), bentonite and poly vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP). NaCMC (0.2 %) showed maximum viscosity (50 %), maximum sedimentation volume of BSS and maximum (0.4 %) adsorption of NaCMC by BSS. Bentonite and PVP had no significant effect on sedimentation volume of BSS but increased the viscosity . The radiological studies on the X-ray picture of rabbit using BSS (50 %) and NaCMC (0.2 %) exhibited poor contrast of the stomach region. To increase the stability, suspension was mixed with tri sodium citrate (4 %). The X-ray picture of rabbit showed good contrast of the stomach as well as the small intestine region.en_US
