| Abstract: | A simple and one-pot synthesis of 1, 10-diethoxy-1H-pyrano[4, 3-b]quinolines 3a-e from the respective 4-chloro-3-formyl-2-(2-hydroxyethen-1-yl)quinolines 2a-e has been achieved (by Vilsmeier’s reaction on 4-hydroxyquinaldines) by way of intramolecular cyclization when reacted with ethanol in the presence of a few drops of hydrochloric acid. All the newly synthesized compounds have been characterized by their spectral and analytical data. Anti-bacterial studies also have been carried out for some of the synthesized compounds. |
