Abstract: Reaction of pentachlorophosphorane with o-Aminophenol in 1:2 mole ratio under controlled temperature conditions yields a spirobicyclic phosphorane (1) in which a five-membered ring with oxygen and nitrogen bonded to a pentavalent phosphorus. However, at higher temperatures of the reaction, a benzoxazaphosphole (2) is isolated which crystallises in a triclinic system, space group P‾1 and has structural parameters of a = 8.2932 (8) Å, b = 9.4138(9 ) Å, c =10.4382(10) Å and  =96.073(2)°, β= 108.303(1)°, =112.785(1)°. R1 = 0.0610, wR2 = 0.1178 for 1574 reflections [1> 2 σ (I)].
