Abstract: A solar oven designed for giving temperatures in the range of 110-115͘ᵒC has been used for the fixation of pigment prints on silk using low temperature cure catalysts. The colour values and fastness properties of samples printed with different catalysts and thickeners and cured in solar and electric ovens have been measured and compared. The effect of partial substitution of kerosene with a synthetic thickener has also been investigated. Prints cured in solar oven are comparable in colour values and fastness properties to those cured in electric oven at a higher temperature. Kerosene emulsion thickening gives good results with both tartaric acid and catalyst LCP. Tartaric acid, however, is better of the two catalysts.
