The surface characteristics of flax fibres subjected to several chemical treatments have been studied using the scanning electron microscopy. It has been found that topographically flax fibres can be improved and partial 'cottonization' is possible with depectinizing treatments, and eventual 'cottonization' is technologically feasible with delignification treatments.en_US
