Recent developments in imaging radars with polarimetric capabilities are briefly surveyed and the need to develop the technology indigenously in India is emphasized. A new method to analyse the data is developed using the concept of the density matrix which was introduced into quantum theory by von Neumann, Dirac, and Landau.en_US
