Abstract: Gallium doped germanium bolometer cooled to ~ 1.8 K is used as a detector for far-infrared (FIR) astronomical observations by using the TIFR balloon-borne telescope. Since the detector signals are weak (~ 40 nV), an AC coupled, feed-back stabilized, low noise pre-amplifier was designed to amplify these signals. The main features of the pre-amplifier designed are: (1) Frequency range, 5 Hz to 100 Hz; (2) Noise level (referred to input), ~10 nV/Hz1l2 at 10 Hz; (3) Gain stability, ~ 0.04% per °C (+ 25°C to – 20°C); and (4) Input impedence, > 100 MΩ.
