| Abstract: | The title reactions studied in the temperature range of 70°-80°C are first order each in [substrate] and [oxidant]. The second order rate constants remain unaffected by the change in ionic strength and decrease with decrease in pH showing that protonated forms of oxalate and glyoxylate have lower reactivities. The rate constants decreases with increase in [iodide]. Both Ie and I are the active oxidising species. The rate and activation parameters have been computed and possible mechanisms have been given to account for the kinetic results. |
